Josef Horak showed me how he plays, which is with the floor peg tucked back
against the heel of his right shoe and the bass clarinet leaning from right
(bottom) to left (top). He adjusts the neck slide and rotates the mouthpiece
to compensate. He also leans the instrument forward a little to get a better
angle for the mouthpiece. I don't think he rests the instrument against the
inside of his left thigh, but that's at least a possibility.

With a little ingenuity, you should be able to cobble together a saxophone
neck strap and a belt (or maybe a bassoon seat strap) into something you
could sit on or hook to the chair leg.

A couple of months ago, there was a discussion of a floor stand that could be
used while you're playing bass.
