I'd like to make a plug for a setting of Casey at the Bat (not the one
indicated below) by Randol Bass. This was (I believe) commissioned and
premiered by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and is available as a rental from
E. Schirmer (rentals@-----. This is
essentially a fantasia on "Take me out to the Ball Game" as if it were
composed by a collaberation between Richard Strauss and Carl Stalling (of
Warner Brothers cartoon music fame), along with narrator. It has some great
clarinet licks, inclusive of some Til Eulinspiegal quotes. If you wanted to
hear this, I have a recording of Randy's transcription for wind band,
narrated by Joe Bob Briggs (?!?) which I could share in .mp3 format off
line. Tho' the St. Matthew Passion it ain't, this is the cleverest piece of
music I've ever played, and I would believe it would be a smash hit at a
youth concert (particularly if YOU got to play the clarinet solos).

Greetings List,

Has anyone performed the following orchestral works?
Kirk-An Orchestra Primer
Schickele-A Zoo called Earth
Proto-Casey at the Bat
Bamert-Circus Parade
Peck-The Thrill of the Orchestra
Gould-The Jogger and the Dinosaur

We are trying to find next seasons youth tour program
for our orchestra and I was hoping someone might have
some comments on the pieces listed....

We've recently done the Britten (Young Persons), Prok.(Peter),
Greg Smith (Orch.Games), and Kleinsinger (Tubby).

Ideas welcome!
TIA,
Lori Lovato
