Hello, Klarinet List.

In January I wrote a new Trio and Duo, and I have
transposed the Duo into Bb and have already mailed
off copies to a number of clarinetists.

"Suite for Two Bassoons"
(Jan. 2002, 5 mvts., 18 min.) ("Duo Suite")
(Composed from January 13 to January 25, 2002.)
(Which I have just transcribed for 2 Bb Bass Clarinets,
or 2 Bb Soprano Clarinets.) This work really needs
to have both instruments, to not only be in the same
transposition key, but also the same octave, as there
is a lot of interplay between the 2 instruments.

Those people will get their copies of the Bb Clarinet
Version of this "Duo Suite" next week, and then in the
coming months, we might hear what they think of it.
I'm hoping it will work, but we will have to see what
they say.

But there is still a lot for me to learn, and therefore
also a lot of music for me to write. Some people have
asked me to consider writing for groups of 3, 4 and 5
clarinets. What kind of scorings would be the most
practical for getting a lot of performances?

One person suggested that a Quartet of Clarinets
would get the most performances if it was written for
3 Bb Clarinets and 1 Bb Bass Clarinet. What thoughts
do you have?
