I tend to only play using the peg. Not so much because I find it
restrictive but because the first bass I played had no hooks for a neck
strap. One thing that I have done is set the horn so that it is leaning
slightly towards me. This puts some extra weight on your hands which is
probably bad for them (if someone knows yes or no on this please let me
know) but also allows for easy adjustment of you embochure and prevents
the horn from getting away from you on those notes where you would
otherwise be supporting the horn little or not at all.
