I always thought using a strap along with the peg WAS the cure for that
problem. If you keep the strap fairly tight, so that for the open F and C
you need only a slight shift of the head or neck to apply some inward
pressure, it should help. That seems to work for me, anyway. I feel very
insecure without the strap, restrictive or not. I don't think, judging
from my Selmer alto clarinet, that the double strap hook system is any better.
