I was not going to reply to your first post, but now I will. To my
knowledge, there are NO such DVDs. The one possible exception is a CD or
DVD about Shostokovich on the Chandos label. I suggest that you contact
Tower Records (your local store, one of the stores in New York, or via web).

Seems not many people know where to get Music History related DVDs or DVDs
good for general background/setting information in which to project a music
history lesson. Or maybe the post was simply overlooked. Since it is
important to me, I ask that you please forgive my reposting the request.

I am looking for a resource where I can purchase DVDs about Music History (I
teach a Music History course to the undergrads here at Shenandoah U). I'm
looking for general coverage rather than specific (i.e. "Music of the
Medieval Period" vs "The Development of Antiphons in Medieval Music"). Also
beneficial would be DVDs about European History-again of a general nature.
Something that provides a clear setting of the society that these composers
were composing in. Oh yeah...in English. ;-)

I finally made my Laptop work with the ancient projector they sent me and
have used portions of movie DVDs to present settings of Medieval and
Renaissance life (no, I did not use Monty Python!, though I'm sure it would
have been popular). The kids, and I purposely use the term "kids", seemed
to have a greater interest and depth of understanding when I began the
lecture about the musical side of things. So I am really interesting in
finding a resource of DVDs to present this stuff in a "multimedia" format to
this "multimedia generation".

ANY HELP would be GREATLY appreciated!
