David, thanks for the info. I returned to the
clarinet a couple years ago after a 10 year
lapse and have just purchased a Kooiman Etude.
It does seem better in that it doesn't tire my
had so much but I sometimes have trouble
balancing the horn. I am experimenting with
keeping it just on the inside of the 1st (outer)
joint and just outside the 2nd joint. When you
say "She helped me to properly position the
Kooiman so that it rested just behind the 2nd
joint of my thumb." do you mean you moved it to
the other side of the 2nd joint (towards the
wrist)?
