Apropos this bit, my very good friend and excellent clarinet (especially
bassethorn and bass) player Stephen Trier, alas now no longer with us,
was persuaded by a journalist a few years ago, along with other members
of the LPO, to give his opinions about various subjects, to be
incorporated anonymously in a book.

The various players obliged, only to find that their anonymity had not
been respected when the book was issued. (It has since been withdrawn.)

The violinist who had confessed to her various liaisons with leaders,
conductors, and so on, was particularly discomfited to be named.

But so was Steve, who was reported as saying, apropos Solti, "I'll dance
on his grave, really I will!"

This was at a time when Solti was still the principal conductor of the
LPO.
