Subj: [kl] Follow up on kids practicing
Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 11:26:40 -0500

By the way, follow up, I wrote about my son practicing clarinet too much and
not interested in anything else in live. Well we moved out of my sisters
apt. My old landlord phoned me up, offered us a discount on rent for me to
move in a corner unit and be assistant resident manager which I can do out of
my home and still take care of my kids. Also two months rent free for me to
clean up another apt., these are townhouses, where they had to evict dead
beats who trash the place on their way out. We still don't know when my
husband can get back and start his old job back if the company will keep it
open for him, which they are suppose to for reserves. But until then we are
good now. My kids got their own bedrooms again and I gave my son the room
with no wall next to a neighbor. He can practice without driving people
crazy. He is back in his old school with his good friends and teacher he
likes.

I ask my daughter if she would like Suzuki recorder class again or rhythm
dance this time and she said both! I told her pick one for now and maybe in a
year or two she can take more than one class, but aside from money I think at
age 5 she shouldn't be in too many classes with her time all scheduled. She
is a free spirit type and I think she need to spend time just playing and
using imagination. She has another week to decide, recorder or dance. Her
brother is after her to choose recorder so my guess is she will choose dance!
But I am not pushing one way or the other.

So a lot of the problem with him obsessing about practice is going away. I
didn't have time yet with unpacking and working but when we settle in I am
going to talk with the band director at his school who was helpful before,
about finding us another clarinet teacher and maybe letting him in the band
even though technically he is too young. Maybe this school will be more
flexible.

I don't know if anybody was interested in this, sorry if not, but 2 people
wrote me off list so I thought maybe I would let the rest know things are
better.
