Hello list!

I am a senior clarinet performance major at Bradley University in
Illinois, and I'm currently working on a research project involving
clarinet pedagogy. To aid me in my research, I'd like to pose a few
questions to all the teachers on the list.

First, for those of you who teach younger students (beginners though high
school age):

1.) In your opinion, what are the main challenges a beginner or younger
student must overcome? What are the most important things to teach a
beginner?
2.) From which method book(s) do you teach?
3.) Does the method book you use teach everything you feel a young
student should learn, and is it written in a manner which is easy for the
student to follow? If not, how do you compensate?

Second, for those of you who teach at the collegiate level:

1.) What are the most common problems among students beginning their
college careers?
2.) Are these problems which would have been easy to address earlier in
thier studies?
3.) From which method book(s) do you teach?

If you reply to this message, please include some brief information about
yourself: where you teach, what age levels you teach, or anything else
you feel I need to know.
I will be reasearching this topic for the duration of the semester, so
I will probably have follow-up questions to post at a later date. If you
wish to respond to me personally, feel free to e-mail me at
StephMS405@-----. If you have any other comments or information you
think would be helpful to me, I'd be happy to hear from you. Thanks in
advance to all who respond!
