Thank you Josh (and all who have so kindly given me much valued advice)
I have already contacted Wiseman and we are in the beginnings of a
discussion. I still can't figure out if the bass case is the right one
for a basset horn. In fact, I can't quite figure out the geometry of
the situation. I think I need to see such a case to get my head shaped
right.

For those who suggested that I might build my own, I think you ought to
know that on many things in life, I am very good. But building things
is very much not one of them. Perhaps it is enough to be handsome and
of noble birth, but I can't hang a picture without bringing down the
wall.

The Wiseman cases are quite pricey by the way.

If you go their website www.wisemancases.com, Howard discusses what they are made of. I am very pleased with my case. All the clarinet pieces fit very snuggly, without touching the keys (for the most part). I would trust my clarinets in it over about any other case I have ever seen or used.
