Years ago, I wished I had something in the way of ear protection. The SO
played Pictures at an Exhibition on three different concert pairs over four
years. (It was a favorite of a very wealthy patron's wife. <g>) First
clarinet sat square in front of first trumpet, and every time he played the
opening notes to Promenade, it felt like someone was driving nails into my
head. I know it had to be effecting my hearing, because my ears would hurt
every time we played it. I don't remember anyone ever discussing ear plugs
back then. I think it's a very good idea.
