There are a number of stories of occasions when Ormandy got lost, so maybe
you're right.

I did read a local Philadelphia newspaper article by one of the staff music
critics while Ormandy was still alive saying that, when he guest conducted
other orchestras, the "delayed" beat disappeared. This may have been because
the other orchestras were accustomed to playing at the bottom of the beat
and simply played the same way for him.
