George says:

<<Just checked all of the joints on my old (ca 1985) R-13. All are right on - less than 0.2 mm on any of them,>>

Just for a lark, I got out my old Buffet R-13, circa 1966 (serial number 81058), and measured the fit on the middle tenon.

The tenon (on the upper joint) measured exactly 16 mm.

The tenon socket (on the lower joint) measured 16.5.

Kinda......

I was a little deeper on the side closest to the bridge key........ I even took off the ring and measured, to make sure it wasn't slightly crooked......but it was.

Now, I make barrels on a lathe. I KNOW how hard it is to bore exactly even concentric cirles. I've thrown out more than I have kept.

But still....ya gotta wonder. Was the guy at the lathe (or drill press) reliving a fight with his wife that he had before coming to work that day in 1965?

Or perhaps suffering from a little too much Bordeaux the night before?

I'll never know, but forever wonder!
