Shaw's observations with regard to Goodman may well have been correct for
all I know. I certainly don't claim to know much about Jazz; just an
occasional listener. Still, the definition of Jazz must be pretty broad to
include so many different forms. Besides, it seems that Jazz musicians are
always taking little jabs at each other. Remember when Wynton Marsalis was
gaining in popularity back in the 80s. Jazz musicians were popping out of
the woodwork to criticize his accomplishments in the Jazz world. Like any
classical listeners really cared.

Anyone who was married seven times including trips to the alter with
both Ava Gardner and Lana Turner is a man whose opinions on things I
will value. But I also add that Shaw's insecurities caused him to make
many statements that showed him in a good light at the expense of other
great artists who were always relegated to a lesser arena.
