Well, FWIW, I always got the impression that Goodman was a little cocky. He
heard my father play once (when my father was very young) & walked over to him &
said, (according to my father), "You'll be as good as me some day", which seemed
a little stuck up to say, but no big deal, I guess. (And it *was* a terrific
compliment.)

My dad played w/Artie Shaw quite a bit...thought he was a great guy & they
seemed to get along great - I remember they talked quite a bit on the phone, & I
don't ever remember there ever being anything negative said about him. But of
course, my dad didn't know him really well personally - they just had a business
relationship.
