He also had a lot of negative things to say about all his ex-wives. If you
can still find it, read his autobiography "The Trouble with Cinderella."

He really is quite a bitter man and has been for years.

In one interview, he was quoted as saying he quit his Big Band because he
was tired of playing Begin the Beguine every night. People would think that
he made a mistake if he didn't play it note for note like the recording.

Really appreciative of the audience that put money in his pocket!!

His small groups were really the best. His last recordings, done in
Australia, were outstanding.

I met Shaw back in the late 70s. He has some really negative things to say
about Benny Goodman, who, of course, was no longer around to defend himself.
Something about how he was a 'true' Jazz musician and Goodman was not. It
really turned me off at the time.

I don't know about his sister, but I just heard on the list or elsewhere (I
don't recall) that Shaw is very much alive, and just as outspoken as ever,
at 91.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
