Hi gang - my "day job" is with USDA (the US Dept. of Agriculture for those not in the U.S.) There currently is a ban on the importation of Clementine oranges from Spain because of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly. When entering the US you're asked to declare fruits and vegetables and meat you may be carrying not because of tarrifs etc but to try and keep pests out of the US. EU countries are equally concerned about things like Foot(hoof) and mouth disease etc. So PLEASE discard your peels before entry into the US.. youll avoid having to through the additional FSIS and APHIS inspections.
