MR. Nibbelin,
You are a bully, aren't you? Mr Winkleman, it seems to me, was merely
adding some personal observations to a conversation you did not have to
participate in if you so chose. You may regard them as uninformed, however,
I can not see any treatise on the benefits of socialism in Mr Winkleman's
posts, nor do I consider them to be "slander" of corporate business. As for
the clarinet nexus, this thread did not start on topic to start with, so
shouting at Mr Winkleman seems a little unfair. I do think, however, that
corporate support for the arts is an important topic which might
legitimately be explored on a list of persons interested in the clarinet.

So, Mr over qualified to share one's long hard earnt knowledge within the
capitalist system (smile), why do and why should corporations such as Texaco
contribute to the arts?

Is not Mr Winkleman correct when he suggests that by law, companies must
maximise profits for shareholders?

What benefits can companies get from being charitable? How can arts
companies exploit this to their advantage?

How does a chamber group go after the corporate sponsor?

Can a corporation's contribution to society be judged by:
(a) The taxes it pays;
(b) Its charitable contributions;
(c) Its contributions to the arts?
(d) Its creation of wealth for shareholders and trickle down effect for the
rest of us?
(e) How it treats its employees (as contended by Mr Winkle)?
(f) All or some of the above?

Can not mere mortals on this list have humble opinions about such things?

Sincerely,
Gavin.
