Audrey says:

<< Some are thick, rounded wooden rings with beautiful grain visible, but you can customize them with engraved
silver rings too. I'm sure Morrie could explain this better, and maybe he has some other options, too. The original prototypes I got to try had silver engraved rings, but most of the Vancouver players are going for wood, as far as I know.>>

Audrey, the reason I asked is that I much prefer a barrel without the heavy metal rings. (I am NOT going to theorize WHY, I don't know why!) The tone seems freer to me and more responsive.

Without rings, of course, cracking is a constant threat, therefore the question. I have been experimenting with both wood and delrin rings to see if they produce the same tonal effect, and the protection of the barrel.
