He did purcahse it new in 1976. Thanks for info. I have found it to be
really good instrument to play. I like knowing that I am playing on the same
instrument my grandfather played on and that perhaps one of my children will
take up clarinet and play it as well.

Assuming it is a professional model, the serial number dates to 1976. That
being the case, it is most likely an R-13.
