You may have noticed that I've been a little quiet lately. Well, I'm finishing up some projects which have been a lot of fun, but VERY absorbing.

One of these involved building an extension for a low-Eb bass.

No, I didn't get to build a full extension all the way down to low C (which would have taxed my abilities to the max) but I did get a chance to build an attachment which allows a low D.

My customer likes to play cello parts, and he really needed the low D, as this note corresponds to the lowest note on the cello. Due to some hand problems, he didn't want the forest of thumb keys that normally accompany a low C bass.

So, together we designed an extension that would meet his needs. With the extension on, a Low D sounds when a low Eb is fingered. A quick switch allows the same fingering to play the normal low Eb. (Yes, chromatic passages are not completely possible, we knew that.)

One of the nice things was that adding the extension allowed us to correct a very SHARP third line B.

Anyway, if you want to take a peek at what we did, you can go to the following site:

Give it a minute to load, the jpg's are fairly large.
