Notes by Hans Moennig in "A Clarinetist's Notebook Vol. I", by Robt. Schmidt
indicated that one should put a "small open mouth medicine bottle with moist
[his emphasis] cotton into the case" if the weather is cold and the
instrument can't be played for a number of days. Then, in a later edition
(1978): "Mr. Moennig now uses orange peels. Be sure to change the peels
when they dry out. If the peels become moldy, there is probably sufficient
moisture without them".

Moennig had extensive suggestions for carefully breaking in a new clarinet
and for resuming playing on a clarinet that had not been played for a while.
