Subj: [kl] Music Notation Software Update

The feedback and advice I've received in response to my questions about
inexpensive music notation software have wonderfully pointed me towards
4 packages I will try for awhile: Finale Notepad, Lime, NoteWorthy
Composer, and Melody Assistant. My primary interest is in being able to
easily tranpose music from my Bb horns (clarinet & tenor sax) for my Eb
horns (alto & bari saxes).

Since I'm not interested in a formal or comprehensive software review
and will most likely decide on the basis of ease of use, comfort with
the graphical user interface, the features each package contains, plus
similar personal and subjective factors, I will take advantage of 30-day
shareware trials and Notepad being free to explore the four packages
I've mentioned. Once I get a better understanding and develop my own
preferences, I'll report back here with some summary comments, knowing
software choices are often just as individually unique as buying cars,
houses, horns, mouthpieces, etc. I expect it'll be around the end of
February before I'm willing to make any final choices, given my schedule
of activities for the next several weeks.

Thanks for getting me pointed in the right direction and being so helpul
along the way.

Jim
