Dear list,

I have recently been given some very old metal saxophone mouthpieces. These
were played by a very fine saxophonist who used to teach at our school but
who recently passed away. If any of you has any information about these
very interesting and cool looking mouthpieces, please contact me privately
at rgarrett@-----.

Thanks very much!

1. Metal - Goldbeck & Co/Superb/Chicago - the logo is similar to the old
Kaspar dotted circle. This is an alto mouthpiece with a form fitting
ligature - pretty nice setup actually.

2. Metal - Goldbeck & Co/Makers/Chicago - same as above except the word
Makers replaces the word Superb in the logo. Also has a form fitting
ligature to fit the metal mouthpiece.

3. Hard Rubber with a metal lay/face - Naujoks-McLaughlin - the number 2 is
prominently displayed on the side - appears to be a facing number. this
appears to be an alto mouthpiece (somewhat small, but I think it is an
alto) with a metal ring at the end where the mouthpiece fits over the
cork. Expensive blank to make I would think.

4. Metal - Alexander (France) - Super Jazz. Small, but appears to be an
alto mouthpiece. It has a beautifully inlaid hard rubber piece where the
upper teeth hit the mouthpiece (no teeth marks - quite mint actually) -
this is quite a nice looking mouthpiece. It also has a superbly crafted
ligature/cap combo in which the half cap (only covers the tip, sides, and
face) slides over the reed side of the mouthpiece and slips over the
matching ligature. Since there is tarnish, I am assuming it is a silver
mouthpiece. There is a capital M to the right of the lay at the base -
looks like a facing designation.

5. Metal - looks like it could be an Alexander also, but all it says is A2
on the back below where the ligature would sit. There is a B5 on the lay
at the very base - just below where the reed would sit. this also appears
to be an alto mouthpiece.

If anyone has any information about these mouthpieces, please contact me
privately at rgarrett@-----.edu

Thanks.

Best wishes,
Roger Garrett
