Tony,

Glad to provide some information.

Roland Cardon (15 Apr. 1929 Ronse - 18 Aug. 2001 Ronse, Belgium). He studied
flute and conducting in Gent and Luik (Belgium). He joined the Ardense Jagers
(military band) as a flautist in 1955 and soon started conducting various
military bands. From 1982-1994, he was director of the Conservatorium in
Ostend.

The concerto was written for Robert Spring and the first performance was with
Bob and the Band of the Belgien Guides (military band) at the clarinet
festival in Ostend, Belgium in July 1999. This concert was recorded live and I
have this on CD. I don't know if it is still possible to get a copy from Guido
Six. If you want his e-mail, mail me privately.

The concerto is in three movements: Andante/Allegro, Andante and Vivace
Giocoso. It is virtuoso but lyrical (for instance, the first solo entry is
marked "dolce espressivo") The melodies are rich and the last movement is
influenced by jazz. The difficulty is comparable to, say the Weber concertos.

The concert on Saturday will be recorded. If you want to buy a CD, it will
surely be possible but don't be disappointed by the level. It's only an
amature band. I hope to render the solo part creditably. We'll see...

David
