I will always remember that the music history book we used in college -
Grout, I think - devoted about a sentence to Shostakovich. What a crock!

Any Shostakovich lovers would be interested to read the following review
from The New Republic, and perhaps the items being reviewed. The general
tenor of the lengthy review is that this composer has been unfairly judged
for his lack of academic rigor and supposed kowtowing to the Soviets. Here
