I also play a classic 400, mine's a tenor. I looked long and hard on Ebay
for one (Top Hat and Cane...a lot of Bundys were also sold as 400s), and
was very satisfied with it. The tone has a bit more edge to it than a
MkVI, which for me, makes the instrument more versatile (the VI is less
suited to rock or pop, whereas the 400 can do both, in my experience).
Personally, I don't mind giving up a little tiny bit of warmth for a wider
range of playability. And the bow design is genius - with the keys on the
BACK side of the bell, it doesn't matter where I rest the horn, I never
muffle the tone holes! It's an awesome horn, no doubt about it...
