I have a pre-Selmer Buescher 400 alto sax that is a marvelous instrument.
These saxes had the "big bell" on them. I think that they are great for
jazz, pop, and r&b work. I also like the snap on pads. I don't know why the
snap on pad was discontinued...they work great! I also admonish the repair
techs that take the snaps out of the key cups and install regular
pads...bummer :~(

At any rate, the older Buescher Aristocrat was a fine instrument also. I
used to own one of the tenors. Great horn with excellent engraving. I traded
it in for a Mark VI back in the early 70's. Wow, that was a mistake. I wish
I had it back. Now I have a "like new" Buffet SuperDynaction. I bought it
from a retired pro here in town that hardly ever played it. It is literally
like new. I sold the MKVI to one of the Selmer nuts locally. I think I got
the better deal. Go to the www.saxgourmet.com web site. Steve Goodsonn has
a link about his favorite vintage saxes
