Before we opened our new hall, we had to play in places where the
humidity was as low as 3%.
The reeds would dry out as I was playing!
We now have a new hall where they have control over things like that,
but chose to save money by heating only to 65 degrees, if that. Now that
the company that runs the hall had to pay for a new upper joint for an
oboe (after it developed something like 16 cracks,) we have two
thermometers on stage at all times, each reading 72 degrees.
