Happy New Year everyone. I'm back, finally, with some time to actually read
the Klarinet postings and found this questions about Minidisc.

I have a Sony MZ-R37 Minidisc recorder with a Sony stereo mic EMC MS957 and
it's great! Not professional recording quality, but it's close. The
recorder has a mic input, head phone stereo output (it came with a set of
headphones), stereo line level out, optical in (I wish it was optical out so
I can transfer onto my computer) and power input (it also works well with two
AA batteries). The recorder has limited editing features which I find very
awkward and unecessary for my purposes. The mic is top quality and has a
1/8th inch plug specifically designed for minidisc recorders - well worth the
price.

The recorder cost me about $170 and the mic was $199 from an internet source
(MSR $299). The recorder is small and comes with a pouch for easy
portability. The mic also has its own pouch and can comfortably fit the
Minidisc player keeping the whole setup in a convenient carrying package - a
must for when you have lots of other stuff to take to a rehearsal.

It's great for personal reference of tone progress as Ben said and to check
on my balance in orchestras and other performing groups. It really is a
must-have for anyone wanting to improve.
