Some models of Vandoren mouthpieces play very sharp from my experience
(and I am referring to the ones that are supposed to be 440). I owned 2
B45 lyres, one of them required about the same amount of length to play at
440, and the other needed that plus another 1-2mm - which I sent back. It
was so difficult to match pitch I eventually stopped using it except for
marching band, where they seem to play at 442 all the time anyway :)
