Hello. I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. But on to my
question...
For Christmas I asked for a Buffet R-13 clarinet. It hadn't come in in time
for Christmas, so my mom just told me that I WAS getting the R-13 and that
it would be in any day. Yesterday, the local band store called to say that
my clarinet had arrived, so my mom drove me over there after she got off of
work to pick it up. When we got there, I opened it up and realized that it
wasn't an R-13, but an E-12. There must have been a communication problem
between my mom and the people at the band store, because she was under the
impression that she had ordered the R-13. I was disappointed, which I'm sure
anyone would be, so I told them that I would think about it and come back
later. My mom got mad at me and ask me if I want the R-13 just for my ego,
which made me feel like a selfish brat, even though that is NOT my reason.
So, my mom said that I could return it and get the R-13, though we'd have to
pay a restocking fee of about $200, and my mom said she didn't know when
she'd be able to buy the R-13, since it's a little bit more money, (and I'll
probably feel guilty for the rest of my life). Or I could just keep the
E-12, though my mom said she didn't want me to feel like I was 'settling'.
And one more thing, I wanted the R-13 so that way I could have a good
quality instrument that would last me through high school, college, and
maybe even beyond. But if I were to get the E-12, I would probably want to
step up to the R-13 after high school anyway (I'm a sophomore right now).
I asked a few friends and they said that they would all ask for the R-13,
but now I want an adult's perspective. And since most of you are experts on
clarinets, I figured I'd ask for your opinions on whether I should stick
with the student model (since I am a student...) or ask for the R-13.
Thanks in advance,
Natalie
