I have had some experience with this double, playing broadway shows, etc.
and am also a bassoonist with an orchestra gig. I've found it very helpful
to take advantage of the fact that I can talk to and get help from the
oboists and clarinetists in our orchestra and they have helped me a great
deal. Lessons are very important in the beginning. One of my main problems
was finding reeds that were a good match for the set up that I played.
After going through quite a few reed makers, I found Stellar Oboe Products
and their reeds have been very consistent. These folks were very helpful in
matching a reed style with my instrument and the type playing that I do.
This takes a lot of stress off of the embouchure changes.
