I have a Spriggs soprano clarinet ligature that i used exclusively for about
a year or so.. that is, until I found a Kaspar lig that I love very much.
I've never tried a Spriggs bass lig but my excperience with the soprano lig
sounds much like yours with the bass.

The articulation was always crisp, and I hardly ever found a reed I couldn't
get to play with that lig. There's plenty of 'ping' and it's a wonderful
quality product. But when I got my Kaspar, several friends could tell a
distinct difference from sitting in another room and sitting in the back of
a concert hall, in the projection.

As for the Bay lig that I own, it's his classical design, gold plated with
the rubber linning. It's very close to Kaspar's qualities but I think
they're a bit *too* thin and don't give as much projection. But part of
that may be the rubber lining he uses on the covered models.

Happy Holidays,
Daniel

As a side note:
I also just acquired one of the string screw-adjusted ligatures made by the
Sounds of Woodwinds company. A curious item, definitely will turn heads.
If you like using string for a ligature, and ever come across one of these
rarities, i suggest you snatch it up. It includes all the admirable
qualities of hand-wound string, and the convenience of the screws. However
it's a bit cumbersom if you have to do a quick reed-change or mouthpiece
change (unless you change barrels too). The only drawback i foresee with
it's design, is that the screw unit to which the string is weaved, is
plastic rather than metal (surely to reduce dampening of vibrations, or
perhaps just cheaper production costs), and similar with Luyben ligatures,
may be prone to stripping of the threads of the ligature, rather than the
screws.
