I'm seriously near-sighted, so my solution may not work for you, but I asked
my opthamologist to prescribe single-element, full-sized glasses that were
good at about four feet. This works well for me. The conductor is a bit
"fuzzy", but I can see motion in the distance just fine, so that isn't a
problem.

In my case, using the half-glasses you suggest would not work at all. I
have to read music through the upper part of the lens when playing the
clarinet, because looking through the bottom portion forces me to hold
my head more erect than is comfortable and the clarinet at an unusually high
angle.
