I wouldn't use CDs for backup that you really care about. Errors cannot
truly be verified without the use of a CD disc analysis machine (at a cost
of about $25,000). That is why in the audio world, CDs are the last choice
for delivery of masters for replication. People usually use data tape (ie.
Exabyte) which can have bit-by-bit verification done on it without extra
hardware.
