I think Howard is right about not storing reeds on a flat surface. Given
that wood warps toward water, and that the reed is thinner at the edges and
thus dries there first, convex warpage will be exacerbated and not helped by
the flat surface.

My article on reeds, which discusses this in some detail, was published about
a year and a half ago in The Clarinet, and will be posted on the Mid-West
website after the convention next week. Or if you're at the convention in
Chicago, come to the clinic on Wednesday at 11 a.m. and pick up a hard copy.
