Hi Suzanne,
Welcome to the list. The problem you mention
is actually a concern for most orchestral clarinetists
that switch back and forth between Bb and A clarinets.
Doublers too! In the pit for the Santa Fe Opera
(which is semi-outside believe it or not) we have that
problem and came up with an idea. They're called
"Instrument Sox." You can see a picture of one at
http://www.3-2jazz.org/products.html. Cindy's idea
of heater sounds good, but I'd be careful not to
overdo it with the heat too close. Audrey's solution
is the easiest and what we end up doing all the time,
"getting to know your clarinet" a little bit better. : )
