Yes, digits are digits.... However, the reflectivity of the metalic layer,
dye composition, error rates, and jitter are not equal. This is what can
account for the differences. Different brands use different dye
compositions that "burn" cleaner than others... If the little holes are not
of a perfect shape when they burn, you end up with errors on the disc. You
can also end up with jitter in the reading of your disc. Jitter is
basically clock instability in digital audio. This can be the death of good
sound.

This is why I recommend Taiyo Yuden CDs. They constantly have the lowest
error rates when you burn them. Unfortunately, though, to find out the
error rate on a CD, you need a disc analyzer which costs roughly $20,000.
