My husband and I play a lot of church concerts in the cold months. We
bought ourselves a heater, a kind that makes absolutely no sound, and an
extension cord. We set this all up in front of us and our clarinets stay
warm and in tune and we feel better too. Our hands and fingers don't
have to freeze. This is especially useful when both A and Bb clarinets
are used. When clarinets are cold, not only is intonation a problem, but
the tone quality starts sounding like a toy instead of a clarinet. This
heater has become a necessity for us when playing in churches. It really
is worth the extra effort. Oh, and we also have a heating pad to put the
clarinet stand on top of. The floors are often extremely cold so this
helps too.
