Subj: [kl] Clarinet Bores - inside groove due to tuning
Date: Tue, 11 Dec 2001 03:01:17 -0500

With interest I read all the discussions about (actual or =
psychological?) sound differences caused by microscopic
differences in clarinet bore dimensions and inner surface texture. One =
replier, rightly, made a remark about the effect
of water on this texture. Wouldn't condensation droplets on the inside =
even have a larger effect on dimension and
texture and resonance behaviour? Another disturbance of the inside =
smoothness of the bore is the groove, resulting
internally from adjusting the barrel to get in tune. Is there any =
experience with the effect on sound by this groove? If
so, is ther any cure as well (filler rings or something)?
