Dan,

I wait with eager anticipation to find out if you are right. As one of my
former engineering students, who is also on this list, was quick to point
out, I may be a seriously reputable scientist in my field but "a seriously
disreputable one outside if someone leaves the gate open and lets you out
;-)". I have a year to build up my stamina and my anticipation. What a way
to go!

Dan, what would be the effect if we were to hunt in pairs, which is the
usual attribute of bassethornists?

Dan ... are you still there ... did Raquel burn you alive?

Keith's note on the facts about materials and sound was a delight to
read. I would have commented further, but the number of women
constantly at my door asking to see my cocobolo wood/gold plated basset
horn has now become such a crush of humanity (to say nothing of what it
is doing to my libido), that I no longer have time to discuss these
things.

Mark my words: Keith will have exactly the same problem once he gets his
new, drop-dead gorgeous basset horn, and his sexual exhaustion will be
profound, probably because he is younger than me. I'm almost 70 now and
that many women coming after me presents a problem of endurance that
goes far beyond that necessary to play Meistersinger.

Steve Fox tells me that hundreds of men who cannot even play the
clarinet, have ordered what has turned out to be the musical equivalent
of an aphrodisiac. I think I may have discovered something.

Sorry, I have to run. Raquel Welsh is hammering at my door. I may have
to sell my instrument.
