Subj: [kl] Clark Fobes drives me crazy!
Date: Sun, 9 Dec 2001 12:14:46 -0500

Clark, at the end of a lengthy message, writes:

"You will find that there are very subtle influences at work here. These
are not topics that seem to interest the acoustician. These subtleties,
sometimes immeasurable and intangible are in the realm of art. Sorry,
Dan!"

I read what Clark wrote and chalk it up to the standard "My ears are
better than your science" attitude so common among instrument makers.
Normally, it would not be necessary for me to enter into this discussion
again because I've given my opinion a dozen times and it should not be
necessary for me to state again that I think such a position is roughly
equivalent to the suggestion that "The earth is flat because I see it to
be flat all around me. So screw all you science guys who say it is
round!"

And so, as I read what Clark wrote, I figure, "Leave it alone. The poor
man lives in San Francisco and everybody there is crazy anyway. Besides
if I come out and say that the man has kim-chee in his ears, he might
not repair my new basset horn (at big prices) when I need it done (at
cheap prices).

But then, he ends his message with a glove in my face!! He writes,
"Sorry, Dan!" like I'm the pope and he is trying to tell me that my
infallibility is in question despite my assertions of its accuracy.

Sheesh. Leave me alone. I'm not the medievalist who thows women into
the lake to see if they sink (in which case, they must have been a
witch) or swim (in which case they may not be a witch, but one nevers
knows).

Clark, if you continue this, I am going to have every full Boehm
clarinet in America sent to you for cheap overhauls. And stop arguing
against my infallibility. You still believe that the sun goes around
the earth, so what do you know?
