I guess in the back of my mind, I was thinking of the advice we were giving
as an answer to the original questioner, who I think was a student (I've
since deleted the posts). I'd rather see him/her making a trip to a repair
tech once a year than trying to disassemble the entire instrument trying to
oil everything and maybe having to make the trip to the repairman with
everything in a plastic bag.

I too had the original post in mind when answering the question. I always
ask the tech to look at my instrument and do anything that needs to be done.
To be honest, I am too clumsy with my fingers (outside of playing my
instrument) to be able to do ANY repair work on my instrument at all. It
may be due to the meds I take; they make me shake some and I just don't
trust myself. MY instrument would end up in a plastic bag, not to mention a
student's instrument!!!

However, as far as key oiling goes, it is simple enough to apply one tiny
droplet where needed. This will also, to a small extent, keep the keywork
clean until the next overhaul. If I, with my shaking can do that, I would
imagine others who do not shake, can do that.
