Although what you say about the wood is true, the reason you don't want to
over-oil is that you risk getting the excess into the pads. I know that is
normally not all that likely, but I am quite obsessive when it comes to
caring for my horn, and sometimes, oil is not as thick as it may appear to
be, especially if one plays too soon after oiling.
