Ed, I'm afraid that there is very little "science" here. The barrels were not cut with a CNC controlled lathe and milling machine. Besides, the barrels we play on are not made that way.

But, I will say that other than with gross changes to measurements, a Delrin barrel sounds like a Delrin barrel, a Cocobolo barrel sounds like cocobolo, etc. At least to me, while playing them, they do.
