Subj: [kl] Key oil and bore oil usage; was how often?

For bore oil, I would go with the manufacturer's recommendations. Some
manufacturers treat the instruments at the factory so they only need it once
a year or so. You definitely do NOT want to over-oil. I would contact
Buffet about this, if I were you. Especially if this is a brand new horn.

As to key oil, it is used primarily when a key is a bit sluggish, so it is
on an as-needed basis. One should use only the tiniest droplet at the place
where the rod is screwed in (this is the best way I can describe this -
follow the key from where you actually strike it with your finger to where
it meets the tenon; this connection point is where you put that tiny drop.
NEVER oil on pads, obviously). One should use a Q-tip or the tip of a
non-lint cloth to soak up any oil that leaks off the tenon, so as not to get
any extra oil into pads or corks.
