I do not know whether Mr Rendall has any factual evidence to back up his
assertion, but there as been at least one academic research project which
concluded that, under controlled conditions, the body material has no effect on
a clarinet's tone. I, personally, have found that to be true (which is why I
continue to favor my plastic Vito), although my experience is significantly
more limited than others on this list.
