Dear Bear,
Does this mean that you are on your way towards getting your
Doctorate? I hope so. I didn't do well enough in Theory at Oberlin to
know exactly what you're talking about, but I do know that I remember
being turned off by music compositions at the time, because of the lack
of rhythmic and melodic content. It seemed as though the composition
majors were writing pieces that sounded terrible and would never be
performed for the general public, only for other composition majors and
out-of-work musicians who reside in "Akademia". Some of us used to call
this music "Squeek & Fart" music. That's one reason why I became a jazz
musician.
Bear, I have Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure, and
sometimes I feel tired and depressed all the time. This is one of these
periods for me. It's time for me to forget about everything and make a
beautiful quilt. If you are still working on your Doctorate, I hope you
have time to relax and take a break. I agree with Pattie that you sound
tired. I want to play your piece someday. ANNIE
